Counselling at DAS

DAS offers counsellor placements to students who have completed a recognised Diploma in Counselling, and who are seeking to accumulate practice hours towards an accreditation or recognition.

Our standards of ethics meet the requirements of UKCP, BACP, BPS and AHP.

Our placements are unpaid, but our training course will equip you with the specialist techniques and knowledge to practice at DAS, and to take this learning and experience into other alcohol and drug counselling work.
Your learning will include familiarisation with motivational interview techniques, the main framework tool we use known as ‘the cycle of change’, and the physical pathology of alcohol.
While alcohol misuse is the presenting problem for our clients. For the majority it has become a coping method, and counsellors have to be prepared to work with a wide range underlying emotional and practical issues.

To support our counsellors we offer:

  • Monthly supervision from practitioners who are experienced in working with drinkers and their families
  • Training that will cover the specialist philosophies we use in alcohol counselling. Plus other training events throughout the year
  • Immediate access to the Counselling Co-ordinator, Chief executive or other senior manager for support if a serious issue/incident arises
  • High standard counselling rooms that encourage a safe and supportive environment. Plus a dedicated counsellors’ room for note writing etc

If you would like to work with us please contact Sue Wilburn our Senior Counsellor.
