Activities and workshop
At DAS we will recommend a wide range of activities and therapies that can build on your strengths, address your concerns, and help you recover from the problems and conditions that alcohol misuse has brought about.
As we have outlined on previous pages you will have the option, working with DAS staff and volunteers who share your experiences, to recognise your situation and then make decisions appropriate to your circumstances.
Workshops, social and practical skills
At DAS we recognise that time can be the drinker’s enemy. Therefore, with the help of our volunteers, we organise a monthly programme of practical and social events and workshops to make it easier for you to structure time away from drinking, and perhaps to learn new skills.
Activities on offer might include:
- IT training (computers)
- Cookery club
- Newsletter group
- Film club
- Job club
Mutual help and support from others who have been through similar problem drinking experiences is always on hand at DAS.
We organise and publish a monthly programme of activities. Click on this link to see our current timetable.
SMART Groups
At DAS we host SMART recovery groups.
SMART stands for ‘Self Management and Recovery Training’. It’s a learning method using self-help groups’ set up and run by people who have experienced alcohol misuse and who are maintaining control and sobriety.
The programme covers four areas of recovery:
- Building and maintaining motivation
- Coping with urges
- Managing thoughts, feelings and behaviours
- Living a balanced life
Individuals who participate learn about various ‘tools’ and techniques to help them become confident and positive about themselves and the capacity they have to overcome addiction problems.
You can find out more about SMART at www.smartrecovery.org or contact us at DAS for more information and details of meetings.
